OBITUARY
Ina Ceceila Wright Grayton was born on August 24, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to the
late William August Wright and Idella Vera Wright. She made her heavenly transition
on May 5, 2009 in Cheverly, Maryland.
Ina received her early education from Charles Young Elementary School and graduated from Joel Elias Spingarn Sr. High with dreams of being an elementary school teacher. She later married Charles Grayton and was blessed with three sons Eric, Daren and Christopher. As her destiny changed so did her career aspirations. Ina decided to enroll in D.C. Teachers College where she studied to become a legal secretary. She worked hard to make sure her sons had excellent educational opportunities. Ina worked for the Department of Navy and retired from the Justice Department after 30 years of service.
Ina Grayton was a devoted mother to her three sons who adored her. As a native Washingtonian, Ina loved nature and passed that love on to her sons. She would often take them to the National Arboretum where they would explore the plants, flowers and make scrapbooks of their excursions. She encouraged her sons to play sports and musical instruments and was proud of their participation in the DC Youth Orchestra. Ina was extremely proud of the three strong responsible gentlemen she raised and her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Ina had a green thumb and loved gardening in all seasons. She was an extremely good cook and made the best lasagna and pancakes in the world. Ina had an artistic gift and could draw and play the piano. She was known as a great “knitter” and would make gifts for everyone she loved. In her pastime she loved listening to Johnny Mathis and Lou Rawls, amateur astrology and eating at Outback Steakhouse.
Known as “Ma” to her sons and all their friends and family, she will be dearly missed and will always be carried in their hearts. Ina leaves to mourn her sons, Eric, Daren and Christopher Grayton; her devoted sister, Regina Wright Coleman; her grandchildren, Catia, Avery, Grant and Gabrielle; many other relatives and special friends. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Charmaine Grayton.
