Rudolph “Rudy” Peets

Rudolph Peets was born to Arlessin Peets on November 29, 1934,
in Jacksonville, Florida.  He found rest on January 7, 2009 after a brief
illness due to stroke complications at Suburban Hospital.

He received his formal education first in the public school system in Jacksonville, FL where he graduated with honors from Stanton High School.  He furthered his education at the Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina (A&T) in Greensboro, NC graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics. He later found time to earn an Associate in Arts for Computer Science from the Prince George’s Community College in 1984.

Rudy’s honorably service in the United States Army started in 1953. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 325th Airborne Infantry Medical Company as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged from standby reserve in 1961. During his service he was an accomplished welter weight boxer for the Ft. Bragg Falcon ending with an impressive record of 12 wins, 4 knock outs and 2 loses. While there he also played shortstop for the Falcon’s softball team.

Rudy’s federal government career spanned over 41years. Beginning with three years in the U.S. Army where he served his country as part of the Airborne Medical Corp. and attained the rank of Corporal. This was followed by three years in the U.S. Postal Service. After which, he worked in the Pentagon as a Mathematics Technician. In 1967, he accepted an appointment as a Navigational Scientist with the Navy Oceanographic Office, which later became Defensive Mapping Agency (DMA) now known today as National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA).  He retired in 1999.

Rudolph was an avid bowler, belonging to several area leagues, and the U.S. Bowling Congress, for over 40 years. One proud moment was winning the ABT Championship at Capital Plaza in the early 1990’s. He bowled up until his ailment in the Saturday Night Foursome at Crofton Bowling Center.  Rudy coached both of his children proudly and enjoyed watching their accomplishments.

Rudy relocated to the Washington Metro area in 1965 where he met Cecelia Hill at Greenway bowling alley in Washington, DC. They were later married in 1966 and of this union two children were born, Rudolph Jr. and Christy.

Rudolph leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his devoted wife, Cecelia Peets; loving son, Rudolph Peets, Jr.; loving daughter, Christy Peets; and adoring granddaughter, Layla Peets; two brother-in-laws Leon Henderson; George E. Hill (Doris) one sister-in-law Hazel Lee Branch (Paul), and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.  He was predeceased by his mother Arlessin Peets Jenkins, his grandmother Clara Jackson who raised him and his sister Lucile Henderson.
