Shelia H. Alexander, lovingly known as Grandma, was born at Gallinger Municipal Hospital in the District of Columbia on October 14, 1942.  She was the fourth child of the late Filmore and Doris Ann Prue.  Shelia entered heavenly paradise on August 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving children.

Shelia attended Martha Washington Vocational High School of the District of Columbia Public School system.  She was employed for 30 years with the federal government until her retirement.  She was united in holy matrimony to David Alexander on September 3, 1975, and they shared nine beautiful children.

Shelia loved many things including traveling with her loving husband, baking, and music, especially Christmas tunes.  Christmas was Shelia's favorite holiday.  For Christmas, Shelia showed her love for her family and friends by giving gifts. Her home was like Santa's gift shop with an abundance of gifts and toys for everyone who visited.  Shelia would wait all year for the day after Christmas when she and her siblings would join together and exchange gifts but most of all to share joyous laughter and love. In addition, she would prepare dinner for all of her loved ones and her specialty was homemade cakes including German Chocolate and Cold Oven poundcake.  All loved her famous apple pie.

Shelia was a highly creative soul and adored cross-stitching and sewing. She loved making beautiful Easter dresses for her granddaughters, patching her grandsons' jeans, and comfortable pajamas and bedding for her grandchildren. All of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have cross-stitched pictures that she handcrafted.

Shelia had a passion for education and enjoyed writing composition and mathematics.  She shared this passion with her children and grandchildren, and she instilled in them that education is a fundamental life tool.

Shelia was an avid book reader and television and movie watcher.  She owned more than 300 hundred Disney, Star Wars and Harry Potter movies and every evening enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Shelia spent her Saturdays enjoying the company of her sisters: Phyllis, Doris, and Sheryl playing bid whist, cross-stitching, and her favorite activity shopping at the mall or via QVC.

Shelia had a sweet but savvy whit and wasted no time engulfing you in her love.  At any given time Shelia's kitchen would be full of faces that just stopped by to say "Hi" and enjoy your cooking.

Shelia leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Shelton Harrington, Lisa Robinson, Anthony Alexander, Lori Stanley, John Alexander, and Victoria Bailey; sisters:  Phyllis Prue, Doris Prue, Marsha Carven (Thomas), and Sheryl Prue; brothers:  Keith (Beverly), Kevin, and Kirk Prue; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving and dedicated husband David Alexander; her parents, Filmore and Doris Ann Prue; siblings: Tina Redman, Filmore Prue, Sr., and Shelby Prue; children: Linwood Harrington, Vernell Warren, and Cheryl Harrington; and grandchildren: Eugene Reed and Kennedy Baines.
