Obituary

Quietly at home, on June 16, 2022, Shirley Mae Wade transitioned peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior. Born on October 3, 1930, in Ridgeway, S.C. to the late Willie and Eloise (Crim) Belton, she accepted Jesus Christ in her life at an early age. Shirley was educated in the South Carolina public school system. She came from a large family of 13 brothers and sisters: Willie James, Jasper, Robert, Leslie, Theodore, Thomas, Norris, Ruth, Furman, and Delores, Lucille Lucas, Willie (Bill) L. Belton (Patricia) and Marvine (Lester) Sheffield. Her first marriage was to Boysie Bush and from this union there were three children: Michael (Sarina and Doretha), Carolyn Bush and Dennis Tyrone (Karen). She later met and married T. Rico Alston and from this union there were three children: Russell, Gary and Tracy. In 1986, she married James W. Wade. Shirley migrated from South Carolina to pursue her life-long dream in becoming a nurse. She received training in the nursing field and obtained a degree as a Registered Nurse (RN). She was employed as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for many years at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Washington, DC. After receiving her RN degree, she worked as an operating room nurse for the Pediatric/Orthopedic Department at Children's Hospital. Later in her career, she became a private duty nurse. She was compassionate, devoted and loved her patients. Shirley loved life – she enjoyed buying fancy new cars and showing them off!! She also loved spending time with her family, going to the casino and loved to laugh and have fun. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Carolyn, Russell, Gary (Kim) and Tracy; daughters-in-law Sarina and Karen Bush; eight grandchildren, David, Bianca, Leslie, Myanna, Ashley, Damien, Brandon and Gary, Jr., her siblings Lucille Lucas, Willie "Bill" L. (Patricia) and Marvine (Lester) Sheffield; many great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her sons Michael Bush and Dennis Tyrone Bush and daughter-in-law Doretha Bush. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Willie James, Jasper, Robert, Leslie, Theodore, Thomas, Norris, Ruth, Furman, and Delores.
