Waldo Jackson was born on May 2, 1929, in rural Guyton, Georgia, the beloved son of the late Lalia Jackson Reese. Raised by his God-fearing grandfather (O.G. Jackson), and surrounded by the nurturing support of the village of Guyton, Waldo learned early the values of faith, discipline, and service that would guide him throughout his life.

At a young age, Waldo entered the United States Army, where his dedication and leadership quickly became evident. He distinguished himself through his commitment and excellence, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant in less than five and a half years. During his military tenure, he attended numerous schools, including the Non-Commissioned Officer's School and the Engineering School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Ten years after meeting, on February 14, 1956, Waldo married his high school sweetheart, Verneda Johnson, in Brooklyn, New York. A union built on faith, love, and mutual devotion, for 69 years, they shared a lifetime of partnership and purpose. From their beautiful union came four cherished children: Candace, Cindy, Ralph, and Robin.

During his twenty years of honorable military service, Waldo and his family lived in Virginia, Germany, and Texas before settling in the Riggs Park section of Washington, D.C., in August of 1966 until present day.

In February 1973, the Jackson family joined Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, where Waldo found deep fulfillment in serving God and his community. Over the years, he was a Scout Leader, faithful Deacon and usher, and served on numerous committees and special projects. His steadfast dedication reflected his belief in God's greatest commandment—to love, serve, and obey. Waldo often shared that since joining Plymouth, he strived to live by those principles to the best of his physical, mental, and spiritual abilities.

Waldo began a second distinguished career as an Engineering Technician for the D.C. Highway Department, serving fifteen years. Some of his accomplishments during his tenure included the renovation of the 14th Street Bridge and construction of the 3rd Street Tunnel. Waldo later served as a Maintenance Inspector for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for eleven years and retired in January 1993.

Waldo's life was defined by integrity, humility, kindness, and a quiet strength that inspired all who knew him. He took immense pride in his family!

Waldo leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life Verneda Jackson. Their four children: Candace (Norman, II), Cindy (Anthony), Ralph (Susan), and Robin (Walter). His godson Christopher Teague (Molakai). His ten grandchildren: Danita (Al), Norman "Dezi" (April), Darius (Danielle), Crystal (Garth), Christina, Gloria (Rick), Angela (Devin), Amber (Anthony), Isaac, and Charis. And his sixteen great-grandchildren: Taylor, Autumn, MacKenzie L., Mackenzie M., Melanie, Alexa, Laila, Ava, Aubrey, Darius III, Micah, Derick Chase, Messiah, Ausar, Liam, and August.

Waldo leaves behind a rich legacy of service, faith, and unconditional love. His memory will remain a beacon of strength to all whose lives he touched.
